5 Simple Solutions to Give You an Edge During a Long Interview Process

5 Simple Solutions to Give You an Edge During a Long Interview Process

How do you stay mentally fresh during a long job interview process?

Can'ts poster

Perhaps you have considered finding a new job, or asking for a higher paying position in your current  company.

One of the things that may be holding you back from going forward is the long, nerve-wracking interview process itself that may involve many call backs for higher level interviews.

How can you stay fresh and on top of your game in an energy-charged environment?

Long interviews can be emotionally and physically exhausting for a number of reasons:

  • You know you are competing against other experts in your field.
  • Your attitude and sustainability under pressure is also being judged, so you must be “up” at all times without looking fake.
  • It is difficult living under a microscope for an extended period of time.

Here is some advice for job seekers.

Remember-You are all in the same interview process so focus on what can you do to move ahead of the other interviewees.

Here are 5 Simple Solutions that answer the questions:

  • What are some ways to stay mentally fresh throughout the process?
  • What are some ways to find serenity as the pressure mounts?
  • How should you approach other opportunities that may arise?

5 Things You Can Do to Give Yourself the Edge During aLONG Interview Process.

1.) Wear comfortable shoes– sounds simple but when your feet hurt your whole body hurts, and it shows on your face which may be mistaken as a “grumpy person.”

2.) Positive mental attitude: Start your day right with mirror therapy. When you brush your teeth in the morning tell your reflection why you are the best candidate for the job by focusing on our strengths, then tell yourself how much you appreciate your opportunity to share your qualifications with others. The words you say now may pop into your mind later in the day during the interview, and you will say them with confidence because you believe them.

3.)  Keep up your momentum when you are neck-to-neck with someone else for the job.  Anytime you sit down, take 3 deep “empowering breaths” and imagine them going to any part of your body or spirit where they are needed for reinforcement.

4.) Smile! Even if you do not get this job, your smile may be so memorable it will open doors for another one. You just never know.

5.) Drink plenty of water. Dehydration under pressure shuts down the brain neurons which slows down thinking and responses. You must be on top of your game.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day During Treatment: 7 Tried-and-True Make-up Tips

Celebrating Valentine’s Day During Treatment: 7 Tried-and-True Make-up Tips

“The key to beauty is learning something new and then applying it to your life.”

Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos/author and cancer survivor

So, you have a hot date for St. Valentine’s Day. Great! Now, how do you face the overwhelming challenge of applying your old makeup techniques to your new treatment-face while in therapy? The beauty strategies you previously used went down the drain with your hair.

Now what?

How do you play up eyes that lack eyelashes for mascara, accentuate the arches of eyebrows which no longer exist, or find that dewy glow your skin lost during your last therapy? How can you accept a date looking like “death warmed over?” Well, if you are reading this Death did not land, so keep going. Can you look beautiful during treatment? Yes you can!

Here are 7 tried-and-true make-up tips.

They will help you enjoy an unforgettable Valentine’s Day by rising above the challenge of beauty during treatment and looking down on the big picture of life despite treatment. These tips are easy and quick enough to use for your date after a long day of therapy, every day during treatment, and beyond. You may never look exactly the same because you will look better.

Make-up can be a challenge during many therapies, but especially cancer treatment.

No eyelashes or eyebrows to hold beauty products in place can make you want to give up before you start. But as a three time breast cancer survivor, I learned a trick or two about beauty during treatment. These beauty tips will help you glow while you heal.

These seven techniques can be used with any products including organic ones available in most natural and health food stores and marketplaces.

  • Your face is already dry from medications, long hours in over air-conditioned hospitals, and dehydrating treatment so you may choose to avoid face powder. It has a tendency to settle into cracks and, yes, crevices; the result of skin cell moisture loss.

  • Use brown eyeliner to define your eyes and a lighter taupe eye shadow, applied with a small brush, to create eye brows. Large crayon eyeliner pencils are more moisturizing than powder, and easier to handle if your fingers are swollen, numb or tingling from neuropathy, a temporary condition from some chemotherapies. If power is still your tool of choice, wet the brush with water, dip it into the powder and then apply it to the eye area. It will keep less powder from irritating your eye’s dehydrate mucus membranes, and “set it”— hold your make-up in place.

  • Keep your cosmetics to a bare minimum and use tons of moisturizer. A drop of liquid make-up mixed with moisturizer creates a healthy glow. A drop of moisturizer mixed with cream blush, and applied to the apples of your cheeks will make you the apple of his eye. It will give you just the right amount of color to make you look naturally healthy. A fail-safe way to apply blush is to smile and your “apples” will stand out.

  • Pink stick or gel blush on your cheeks, forehead and chin can give you a sun-kissed glow no matter what skin tone you have. Use colors that are close to your own natural skin tones.

  • Spray your face with an atomizer of water to set your make-up. Small cans of Evian spray are available in department stores, or make your own “spritzer” by filling a spray bottle with purified water. Use it throughout the day to feel refreshed and to maintain that youthful dewy-glow.

  • Lipstick or clear gloss finishes a healthy look, and moisturizes your lips. There are many long lasting lipsticks on the market from which to choose. Once applied, you won’t need a touch-up, even after eating. That little bit of color on your face can make such a difference.

  • Smile! There is no make-up that can brighten your face like a smile. Beauty is only skin deep but your smile comes from the soul. Practiced smiling in the mirror for ‘muscle memory’ and used it whenever you feel like a wet noodle. It will change more than your looks. It will change the vibration around you by pulling it into a higher healing frequency.

Don’t be surprised if your laughter attracts attention.

A nurse may bring someone just starting their journey of healing over to you with the words, “Look at her, she’s glowing. See, it’s not so bad.” Your glow is a beacon of light to others still searching in the darkness of crisis. Share your tips with them.

Increase your healing light by giving it away.

This will make you even more beautiful—from the inside out. It is also a great way to do two powerful things at once; pay it forward to those still in need, and give back to the universe.

Sharing joy is universally empowering.

Laughter and smiles go together like peanut and butter, and are contagious. They are something you want to catch and give to patients who have a lowered resistance during treatment. Laughter raises all vibrational levels within ear-shot, and gives you an inner-glow that shines through to the world with the message, “I’m still here. I’m more than a survivor. I’m a Thriver!” So give someone a smile, and laugh ‘till it heals with confidence, while you are on your Valentine’s Day date. And remember, Cupid is watching.

Your Sexy Superfood Recipe for Love and Beauty in 2016

Your Sexy Superfood Recipe for Love and Beauty in 2016

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ~ Hippocrates

Have you planned something unexpected for Valentine’s Day that’s sexy, romantic, intriguing and healthy? Love is in the air. Cupid’s arrow is aimed at your heart. Better think quick! How about indulging in a relaxing, or exciting, bath with the one you love. Now kick it up a notch and add luxurious olive oil. That’s sexy on steroids! It’s back to the future with the decadence and fun of the Roman and Greek gods. Ahhhbut your so worth it…every golden drop.

How often have you seen secrets from the past catch up to the future? Well it has happened again. An ancient hidden key to a healthy body and sex life is revealed. Superfood olive oil is not just for cooking. It is also for beauty and much more. Holiday Magazines have been filled with eye-catching recipes. But, this article is a different kind of recipe for a gorgeous, sexy you inside and out for 2016.

Did you know olive oil is much more than a great food? It is a superfood and beauty product that meets so many needs. It is wonderful for your delicate skin during the harsh winter months, while vacating on hot sun-kissed beaches or on icy wind-swept ski-slopes.

Healthy glowing skin is downright sexy!

Referring to olive oil in this article means cold pressed extra virgin organic olive oil.

Sexy is nice, but what are the scientific facts behind the benefits of olive oil and your skin?

According to Olive Oil Times, studies have shown olive oil’s oleocanthal phytonutrient mimics the effect of ibuprofen in reducing inflammation, “which can decrease the risk of breast cancer and recurrence. Squalene and lignans are olive oil components currently studied for their possible effects on cancer. Pure olive oil is very rich in vitamins A, E, K, minerals and natural fatty acids. It nourishes, rejuvenates, protects, prolongs, hydrates and maintains skin’s elasticity and softness. The healing power of olive oil also helps skin cells regenerate. It is perfect for sensitive skin which may react negatively to heavier pour clogging oils. Olive oil is a powerful ingredient present in many expensive anti-aging skin care products because it is rich in antioxidants found to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Follow your lucky Stars!

  • “An anti-aging wonder food with head-to-toe benefits.” Dr. Oz describes olive oil as, “Liquid Gold. I want every one of you to start using it every single day.”

  • “Before I go onstage, I drink olive oil. It’s disgusting, but it’s good for your throat,” singer Selena Gomez told the UK’s Top of the Pops.

  • Australian model Miranda Kerr swears by mixing olive oil with a little lemon juice for shiny locks. It’s a home recipe my mother taught me and I have yet to find a better way to repair my split ends after a catwalk show,” she told French Elle magazine.

The list of olive oil benefits is long, but let’s talk 9 practical daily beauty uses:

1.   Facial Moisturizer-Use it full strength on your face. Greek woman have beautiful skin.

2.   Hair– Italians have glorious hair. Olive oil hair conditioning treatment is quick and easy.

  • Before shampooing apply warmed olive oil to hair (oil should be warm to the touch), let it sit on your locks for an hour. Shampoo and condition as usual. It may be necessary to shampoo twice to remove residual oil.
  • After shampooing add three drops in 8 ounces of warm water for a final rinse.      Your hair will glow. Apply more for dry hair, less for normal hair and only on the ends for naturally oily hair.

3.    Anti-hot iron damage Add a small drop to hands and distribute evenly though hair (or just the ends) before using hot irons, blow dryers or other heat related hair appliances, or add it to products you already have (waste not want not) for extra protection.

4.   Makeup remover- Remove stubborn “24 hour” makeup and waterproof mascara with a small amount of olive oil on a damp cotton pad. Gently wipe away all the makeup from your face without scrubbing or tugging on sensitive skin. While it gently removes makeup it nourishes your skin at the same time.

5.   Bath oilAdd it to your bath water for a healthy soak. Gorgeous Italian actress Sophia Loren has a beauty secret – she loves taking olive oil baths by adding two tablespoons of oil to her bathwater.

6.   Body moisturizer- Add a few drops to your body moisturizer for longer lasting hydration. It will also make your favorite products last longer.

7.   Perfume- mix a few drops with your perfume to increase the life of your fragrance.

8.   Shower oilAfter your shower distributes oil to your wet body, wait 30 seconds and then gently pat skin dry. Your skin will glow!

9. Sexy Signature Fragrances- create your own one-of-a-kind fragrance fit for a king or queen because fragrance is an aphrodisiac. Mix essential oils like lavender, rose or sandalwood with olive oil. Your fragrance can be as strong or light as you choose to make it. Apply it sparingly to strategic hot-spots; behind the ears or on wrists, or dilute it by spreading it all over your wet body after a shower for a combination of great smell and softness that will last all day long. Oil has a natural way of holding onto scents that outlasts alcohol based fragrances. This is one reason why most oil based perfumes are costly.

We would be remiss if we did not share a short olive oil food recipe.

There are many flavors of olive oil; the darker the oil the stronger the taste. Olive oil in dressings will improve your skin, hair and nails, and will nourish your body from the inside out. It pairs well with apple cider vinegar which contains more inflammation fighting properties. The latest research findings have shown that consuming a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar daily has health benefits for type 2 Diabetes, has been seen to help arthritis and heart patients, and can help with weight loss.

Olive Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar Salad Dressing Recipe.

Tips:

  • Do not mix oil and vinegar together. They will not combine.

  • 3 to 1 Rule- Three Tablespoons of Olive Oil to 1 Tablespoon of Vinegar

Directions:

  • Rinse lettuce and shake off excessive water. Do not pat dry. Add oil and toss. Residual moisture will distribute the oil evenly which will keep the lettuce from wilting from the vinegar acids.

  • Drizzle vinegar onto lettuce and toss again.

  • Season with salt and pepper or your favorite herbs to taste.

Remember, beauty starts from within. Organic is a great way to eat but using organic products on your body is a healthy alternative to processed chemicals and dyes.

Buy the best olive oil you can afford and use it strategically.

A drop will do. By using it sparingly on your food, in your cooking recipes, with your products, in the bath or directly on your body, a bottle of high grade extra virgin organic olive oil can last a long time. And, you will be reminded of its benefits every time you look in the mirror.

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but healthy is a measurable fact.

Combine beauty with health to create a sexy state of being stronger than the sum of its individual parts. Stay strong with the olive oil glow of wellness. Like the Mediterranean Diet, olive oil is a great secret kept by some of the most beautiful women and men in the world. The secret is now yours.

I’m Gonna Die? Party Time!

I’m Gonna Die? Party Time!

Sunrises and Sunsets: Final Affairs Forged with Flair and FUNctionality

Do you have a Bucket List? How about a Kick-the-Bucket-List?

Reading the book, Sunrises and Sunsets, may be one of the first things you should add to it followed by listening to this awesome interview with Holley Kelley –, M.S., C.P.G. posted at the bottom of this article.

While we may not know when we’ll go, we do have a choice how we go.

We may have more control over our death than we had in our life. It may be really difficult to come to terms with the realization that from the moment we were born we began to die, but it is a fact. When you prepare to embrace Death as a friend who will eventually visit us all, it leaves you time to turn your focus to Life and live it to it’s fullest.

What is the difference between a Bucket List and a Kick-the-Bucket-List?

Listen as Holley answers that question in detail during the interview but the quick answer is, Life… and dying is the deadline.”

Avoiding the inevitable may be as silly as avoiding a great birthday party.

End of Life Preparation is a subject we may avoid, but Holley explains how it can be fun. Yes, you heard correctly-FUN! And why shouldn’t it be? Death is as natural and joyful as birth.

Yet, only /3 of people complete their paperwork in preparation for the inevitable.

Death is just birth that happens on the “other side.” “Oh, Happy Days….”

And for many, it is indeed a Happy Day when it is a day well planned, because they planned every detail of it. Since the age of 21, when she was asked to write her first eulogy, Holley Kelley has been writing and officiating at funerals, making them extraordinary, rather than ordinary. She continues to offer services in this area as well, and during this interview shares her enlightened experiences.
