The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Soul: Volunteerism.
Have you ever met a soul hitchhiker? Robert Clancy is a soul hitchhiker. But, then so are you!
What is a soul hitchhiker?
Robert Clancy says that “soul hitches” occur every day in interactions with others. Robert defines soul hitches as, “any interaction-large or small-that changes how one views oneself, an event or the world.” A chance run-in with a stranger or an intimate conversation with a family member creates an indelible imprint on our soul. You hitch a ride on someone’ else’s soul and you are changed forever.
Consider soul-hitches as hitching a ride on a big beautiful cosmic highway!
And how does one experience more of these incredible life-altering experiences? One amazing way is by volunteering-by putting yourself out in the world to help others. Says Clancy, “The more you reach out and help others, the more you’ll be guided on your highway naturally.”
What a beautiful thought that creates a powerful positive reaction. If thoughts are waves then Robert’s must be busy creating butterfly effects worldwide. The Butterfly Effect is a concept that small causes may have large effects.
In this radio interview with Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos of Wicked Housewives On Cape Cod ® TV/Radio, Volunteerism and Love are at the heart of Robert’s Clancy’s message shared in his empowering book which is an evocative collection of Inspirational stories and transcendental journeys that transform the way you think about community service and humanity.
THE SHOW LINK IS POSTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS ARTICLE.
Clancy shares with you wisdom from his inspiring book filled with incredible tales and travels, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Soul: A Collection of Scenic Views of Volunteerism, Transcendental Encounters with Kindred Spirits and Lessons in Compassion.”
Robert Clancy is a soul-filled travelogue of experiences in which volunteerism is the catalyst for life-changing events and joyful interaction.
Hear Robert share how this awesome book is born from his own passion to serve, which began when he was just six years old.
Today, Robert blends his beautiful consciousness into his business life as co-founder and managing partner of Spiral Design Studio, one of the largest full-service graphic design and web development firms in the Northeast. Spiral Design’s clients include dozens of corporations, educational & healthcare organizations, non-profits and startups, including Citigroup, Home Depot, Sears, Activision, Disney, among many others.
Listen as tales of volunteerism are charmingly relayed by Robert Clancy. You can feel the power and passion of his love for humanity in his words.
Balancing his corporate commitments with his lifelong love and compassion for humanity, Clancy supports ongoing volunteerism within his business and his everyday life. His dedication to community – at both the regional and national levels – inspires his team and encourages youth, as well as professional leaders, to step up and give back. Robert takes he concept of “paying it forward” to a whole new level.
Says legendary actor, author and philanthropist Hugh O’Brian, who wrote the book’s foreword, “Robert is one of those people to whom I tip my hat. He is a dedicated volunteer who completely embodies the spirit of service-a selfless commitment to helping others in order to make a positive difference in the world.”
However, Clancy may best be known by the general public for his Facebook fan page, “Robert Clancy-Guide to the Soul”, https://www.facebook.com/GuideToTheSoul/ which has a quarter of a million followers worldwide. Here, he offers divinely inspired thoughts and reflections that provide wisdom, thoughtfulness and encouragement to people hungry to get more out of life.
And so it follows naturally, that his second book, Daily Downloads and Fortune Cookies from the Universe, provides inspirational thoughts within nine uplifting categories–faith, hope, love, compassion, giving, peace, happiness, strength and leadership–to help center one’s spirit and encourage compassion for humanity.
This collection of nuggets is guaranteed to put a smile on someone’s face, create acozy warmth and motivate one to make a difference.

You have sent me many dream questions and I’ve been waiting for a rainy day to answer them. Well, it’s raining. So, I’ve shut off my cell phone and hung the Do Not Disturb sign on my door that I “permanently borrowed” from a hotel room. In order to answer them all, I’ve created a dream series because I believe that by reading the answers to the dreams of others we enrich our waking-life. Each section in the series will focus on answering your dream questions.
Today, your wildest dream questions are my main priority.
Your Questions: What does it mean when my teeth fall out in a dream? I dreamed that all of my teeth fell off one by one. I was sitting on the bed with my mom. Mom was busy folding clothes when suddenly I felt one of my lower canine teeth getting loose. Then the other one went loose and then it broke off. I spitted it in my palm and started to cry. Then three more teeth from the lower jaw broke and I said to my mom, “Oh! Now what will happen? They were permanent ones.”
Finally, the last tooth crumbled in my mouth while I was speaking came out in bits with one piece comprising of half a tooth while rest of the pieces were in bits.
What does this dream mean?
Dreams are unique to the dreamer but there are some universal symbolism and signs that may fit many dreams.
Dreams of teeth falling out are among some of the more common dreams/nightmares like missing the school bus, missing a test, or my favorite, finding yourself naked in public.
It depends a little on which teeth are involved (number is also important), but generally it means you are not using good judgement about something in your life right now. If it’s your front teeth, it may mean you’re not thinking very well about something upfront and personal. If it’s your molars, you’re lacking wisdom about something. Look for the play on words like “wisdom teeth”. Your canine teeth often deal with protection like a watch dog.
Our dreams are also a microcosm of our waking world. Are you wearing braces and focused on your teeth shifting? Or are you involved in a shifting change in life that involves communication but your teeth get in the way much like the idea of your words get in the way?
What does your mom mean to you, why do you suppose you lost your defensive canine teeth while with her, are you grinding your teeth in your sleep?
Having loose teeth or teeth that fall out in a dream might represent:
- Instability in your life and the inability to “sink your teeth into a situation.”
- Ambivalence about committing to a decision or direction
- Things often in the form of thoughts and beliefs are loosening up
- There is a shift in your thought process and you must lose the old thought to make room for the new.
- It is difficult to express your thoughts when your teeth fall out because it impleads your speech.
Dreaming of loose teeth indicate that you may feel unsettled concerning older beliefs, or unsure about what to do regarding an important matter in your waking life. What can you do to become more decisiveness in your life?
I hope this helps to answers your incredible dream questions. Ask me anything in the comment box.

Your Question: Are symbols and symbolism the same to everyone in every dream? Is there a trick to using a Dream Dictionary?
Although World renowned Psychiatrists Dr. Freud and Dr. Jung used Universal Archetypes present in dreams to see into the minds of their patients to better treat them, dream worlds are unique to the dreamer. In fact, your dream world is as unique to you as your fingerprints or DNA. What is frightening to one dreamer may be enlightening to another. Take the example of a large snake in a dream. It may be frightening to someone with a fear of snakes but may be the Kundalini to others more familiar with spiritual symbolism- the ultimate rising spiritual wisdom. If it is a rattle-snake it may mean there is a warning in the wisdom, “Don’t tread here,” just like the Texas state motto. Sometimes the symbolism can be a play on words.
Therefore, although dream dictionaries are usually based on universal archetypes and helpful, they can also be limiting. Learning your own dream language is the best way to interpret your dreams. I call it learning your Alice in Wonderland “Jabberwocky Talk.” Nonsense words (perhaps based on jabber) coined by Lewis Carroll, for the poem of the same name, which he published in “Through the Looking-Glass.” You hear the words and see the pictures but they don’t make sense until you learn your dream language.
Remember; just like any other foreign language, practice makes perfect.
If you still would like to check your personal definition of something in your dream against a dream dictionary do a search for “dream dictionary” using your favorite search engine, and pick one that appeals to you. You can also get one in print from your bookstore or order it online.
Dream dictionaries work just like regular dictionaries: you look up the symbol from your dream that you want to learn more about, and it gives you some background on what that symbol might mean for you.
As the dreamer becomes more in tune with their inner-guidance, they will learn their own dream language just as I learned mine. In my book SURVIVING CANCERLAND: The Intuitive aspects of Healing, I take dreams from my dream journal and show the reader exactly how to underline important words, figure out their meaning according to their context in the dream in order to understand the dream message.
I hope this helps to answers your incredible dream questions. Ask me anything in the comment box.

Perhaps you have heard the saying, “When nature calls, we must answer, or have an accident.” Well, what if answering nature is easier said than done? Here is a true story with a new twist to that old saying.
My cousin and I were backing out of the driveway in the golf cart on our way to lunch at the Country Club when I heard a phone ring. You know, the new cool ring-tones you download into your cell phone from iTunes or the Apple app store?
We looked at each other and asked at the same time, ”Is that your cell phone’s new ring- tone?”
As we both shook our head no, the phone rang again… in the tree beside the street.
As we looked up in the direction of the ring tone, looking down on us was a large Mocking Bird. To complete the joke he rang us one more time.
“Hello?” I answered to which the bird promptly flew away to mess with someone else’s head.
Nature is amazing and is always listening. It also seems to have a sense of humor.
The next time you hear an annoying cell phone that keeps ringing and you cannot locate its owner look up in the nearest tree. Nature may be calling.

What are the warning signs and symptoms that your anxiety is progressing to overwhelming stress that may become depression? And, what can you do to prevent it? Part three of this three-part series on post-holiday depression focuses on holistic cures, solutions, and preventions to the after-party-blues.
Some of us are natural care givers by nature. We live to help. We love to give. Our nurturing mother-within thinks carrying other people’s troubles for them it will lighten their load. It doesn’t. It just makes your life heavier. And that is depressing.
Understanding and embracing this rule-of-life teaches us an important lesson—We cannot carry other people’s “stuff”, talk their talk for them or walk their path for them. We can respect their life-lessons to be learned by them. And, perhaps our lesson may be to respect and love them enough to let them make mistakes and learn from those lessons.
Temporarily offer your shoulder but not your back. Let me explain.
There is a big difference between being spiritually supportive and being an emotional mule. A supportive person lends a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. A mule carries the weight of the world on their back while refusing to focus on their own life and issues—this is avoidance. It only takes another challenge to be the straw that breaks the mule’s back and sends them spiraling into depression.
Be the shoulder to cry on with a non-negotiable time limitation.
According to the Journal of Clinical Psychology, as little as a thirty-minute cardiovascular routine can provide an immediate natural mood boost similar to the effects felt after taking an antidepressant medication. This healthy holistic response can be due to endorphins released by the body during exercise. The same effect can be accomplished by a daily routine involving a brisk walk.
The Mayo Clinic advocates acknowledgment of stress and talking about and speaking with professionals about depression as a big step in working through it.
Here are additional ways to combat post-holiday depression:
- Return to or begin eating a healthy diet.
- Re-establish and maintain a regular sleep pattern
- Do something once a day that brings you joy
Our mind is a beautiful thing. Experience can teach us that we manifest not only what we want in life but also what we need. Sometimes that need is to slow down, reassess our lives and reconnect to inner guidance through dreams, prayers, and meditation. Depression can serve us in this capacity. It is not an enjoyable experience and few of us would choose to go through it again. However, it can be a sign from inner-guidance that it is time to reassess our lives. By facing our depression rather than suppressing it, we can learn from it, use it to change our life, and ultimately respect it to survive adversity and illness.
Don’t let your post-holidays become something you dread. Instead, take steps to prevent the stress that can lead to depression during and after the parties have ended. Learn to recognize your post-holiday depression triggers. These may include financial pressures and personal demands. Focusing on solutions that work for you can help disconnect those emotional buttons that trigger depression. Combat triggers with awareness before they lead to a meltdown. With a little planning, awareness, and positive thinking, you can find peace and joy during and after the holidays.
